Driving Operations

What is the purpose of this course?

Certificate III in Driving Operations is intended for people who want to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to work in the road transport industry.

It contributes to requirements for employment in advanced operations positions in the road transport sector, including the transportation of dangerous goods.

This certificate is for:

  • road freight drivers - people who assemble, load, secure and unload medium rigid and heavy rigid vehicles; transport goods and materials; and perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance. Specialities might include dangerous goods, tow truck, furniture, specialist freight, food delivery

Participants will learn how to drive a range of vehicles, handle cargo/stock, maintain a vehicle, carry out a range of duties in a warehouse and deliver goods. They will also learn about occupational health and safety, dangerous goods, route planning and navigation.

Licensing, Legislative, Regulatory Considerations

The transport and logistics industry is tightly regulated by a range of regulations, licence arrangements and codes of practice which pertain to many different aspects of operations.

Examples of regulations relevant to various standards include but are not limited to:

  • relevant state/territory roads and traffic authority driving regulations and licence/permit requirements including mass and loading regulations and state/territory oversize/mass pilot/escort permit requirement
  • fatigue management regulations and codes of practice
  • relevant state/territory road rules

Can a participant gain license?

Yes, RAISE Training is able to incorporate licensing as part of the course.

The types of licensing available include:

  • Dangerous Goods
  • LR Light Rigid
  • MR Medium Rigid
  • HR Heavy Rigid
  • HC Heavy Combination
  • MC Multi-Combination

Drivers will be trained & assessed against the RMS competency standards by our RMS accredited assessors. After the required standard of competency has been achieved the RMS will issue the appropriate licence.

What qualifications do trainees receive upon completion of the traineeship?

Participants receive a nationally recognised, competency-based qualification developed by industry as a benchmark for recruitment and training.

Certificate outcomes for Driving Operations are:

  • TLI31210 Certificate III in Driving Operations (Heavy General Freight)
  • TLI31210 Certificate III in Driving Operations (Dangerous Goods)

As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework these qualification are nationally recognised.

What is required in this Qualification?

A total of 18 - 20 units of competency are required (dependant on the selected specialisation) to complete this qualification.

A large range of units relevant to the road transport industry are on offer to cover the diversity of the industry.

Certificate III in Driving Operations has a 24-month nominal term for a full time employee. Part-time employees (greater than 21 hours per week) can undertake this course with an increased term.
